TITLE: The Quantum and the Chaos

Este jueves 7 de Marzo a las 19.30 horas en el Centro Cultural Blanquerna, c/ Alcalá 44, tendra lugar la presentación del libro EL BOSÓN DE HIGGS, escrito por Alberto Casas del IFT y Teresa Rodrigo del IFCA.

Treinta y seis estudiantes de Bachillerato pasarán un día en el IFT para realizar una práctica de análisis de datos reales tomados en el experimento ATLAS del acelerador LHC del CERN.

Por la mañana, se impartirá a los estudiantes seminarios sobre física de partículas, aceleradores, detectores y se les explicará en qué consiste la práctica y cómo llevarla a cabo. Por la tarde participaremos en una sesión de videoconferencia con otros institutos internacionales (Irlanda, Reino Unido y Polonia) y el CERN para presentar y discutir los resultados obtenidos en la práctica.

Esta actividad está enmarcada dentro de la iniciativa internacional Hands on Particle Physics Masterclass 2013 , en la que participan unas 85 instituciones alrededor del mundo y está coordinada por el Grupo Internacional de Divulgación de Física de Partículas (IPPOG).

El IFT organiza el curso "Física de Partículas y Cosmología: La partícula de Higgs y más allá" del CRIF Las Acacias, orientado a profesores de Instituto. El curso se celebra del 4 al 25 de Febrero y consta de 21 horas de clase, impartidas por Alberto Casas, Davida G. Cerdeño, Carlos Pena y Angel Uranga.

El evento “Science and Technology Contributions of Spain to the BigBOSS Experiment” tendrá lugar en nuestro Instituto el próximo día 22 de Febrero de 2013, viernes, a las 10 de la mañana. Será inaugurado por Carmen Vela, secretaria de Estado de Investigación, Desarrollo e Innovación, por José M. Sanz, Rector de la UAM y por Alicia Castro, Vicepresidenta de Transferencia e Internacionalización del CSIC. En el evento se mostrarán las contribuciones científicas y tecnológicas realizadas en España para el proyecto internacional BigBOSS, que tratará de contribuir a desvelar el misterio de la energía oscura.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS 2013-14

The Institute for Theoretical Physics UAM/CSIC, Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence, opens three fellowships for exceptional candidates to carry out a PhD within the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid Postgraduate Programme in Theoretical Physics.

Candidates are expected to hold an MSc in an area of physics related to the group’s research. However, outstanding candidates entering the postgraduate programme at the MSc level will be considered. The fellowships will cover a three-year period, with the possibility of extension for one further year. Candidates entering at the MSc level will be funded for a whole four-year period.
