Welcome

The Institute of Theoretical Physics UAM/CSIC is a joint research centre belonging to
Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (Spanish Research Council) and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid(UAM).
Its goals are the development of quality scientific research in the field of Theoretical Physics, as well as contributing to the formation of young researchers and professionals and to the transmission of this knowledge to the rest of society.

The IFT participates in the Department of Theoretical Physics and collaborates with all its members to attain its goals.

Permanent Positions: Lecturer/Assistant professor at UAM (Madrid) level

A vacancy has arised in the Theoretical Particle Physics group of the Department of Theoretical Physics of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (www.ft.uam.es)

In addition to Theoretical Particle physics (spanning phenomenology of particle physics, gravitation, string theory, lattice gauge theory, astroparticle physics and theoretical cosmology), the research lines followed in the Department are: Experimental High Energy Particle Physics, Nuclear Physics, System Neuroscience, Astrophysics and Cosmology.

Deadline: June 30, 2010.

Visiting Positions: Assistant or Full Professor Level

The Department of Theoretical Physics of the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (www.ft.uam.es) has three openings for up to one-year visiting positions which include teaching duties (in the range 60-120 hours/year). Knowledge of Spanish is strongly recommended. Some of the positions may eventually be renewed for a second year.

Deadline: 5 April, 2010. Deadline extended

Hands on Particle Physics Masterclass 2010

26 Feb 2010
Our Institute participates in this event, oriented to high school students, in which students learn basic concepts about particle physics and perform measurements on real data from particle physics experiments at CERN.

This activity is organised within the framework of the international program Hands on Particle Physics Masterclasses, together which other 85 institutions around the world.

More information about the event can be found on the local agenda.

"Juan de la Cierva" Posdoctoral Positions

The Institute of Theoretical Physics IFT CSIC/UAM welcomes applications to government-funded positions within the "Juan de la Cierva" program. Interested candidates with scientific expertise in the areas of particle phenomenology, gravitation and cosmology, astroparticle physics, lattice and quantum field theory, quantum information theory and string theory, should file an application for a preselection at the IFT, with a deadline set at February 24, 2010.

Job Opportunity: Predoctoral FPI grant

A (predoctoral) FPI grant associated to the project FPA2009-0917 "Fisica de particulas en la era del LHC".
Those grants are usually associated to a research project with a member of the group:
E. Alvarez, A. Donini, B. Gavela, A. Gonzalez-Arroyo, MJ. Herrero, L. Ibanez, C. Lopez, M. Maltoni, C. Munoz, S. Rigolin, A de Rujula.

The only way to apply is through the telematic application which is opened at
the web page of the ministery http://www.micinn.es/portal/site/MICINN/ from February 8th until February 22th.

Job Opportunity: Predoctoral FPI grant

A (predoctoral) FPI grant associated to the project FPA2009-07908 "String theory tools
for strongly coupled field theories and phenomenology".
Applications from February 8th until February 22th.

Project summary:
The start up of a new generation of experiments in particle physics and cosmology rises the strong need
for a parallel development on the theoretical side. String theory can offer both a useful and conceptually
unique point of view to address this challenge, based on the geometrisation of long standing questions
in field theory. This line of work has seen a remarkable progress in the last years, with the development
of holographic tools to study the strong coupling dynamics of quantum field theories, and the qualitative
step forward in the derivation of string models with a realistic low energy physics.
